Blog | Development | How to Show the Folder Editor in Sitecore CMS

This is the thirty-third in a series of posts about learning how to use and develop for Sitecore CMS; it is the follow-up post to “How to Determine the Version of Sitecore CMS”. In this “How to” post I will be covering how to show the folder editor on non-folder items in Sitecore CMS.

As I previously covered in “How to Create Folders in Sitecore CMS”, folder items have a folder “Editor” that shows up next to the “Content” tab and allows the children of the folder to be easily reviewed.

It also provides handy buttons for creating new items or performing other actions.

When creating a custom template, it can be useful to add the folder editor directly, especially if you’re not directly extending /sitecore/templates/Common/Folder.

To properly demonstrate adding the folder editor, you will need to add some new templates.

In /sitecore/templates/User Defined, create “Tag” and “Tags” templates that extend from /sitecore/templates/User Defined/Page. “Tag” items could be used to tag particular articles with a common theme or topic. The “Tags” item will represent the listing page that shows all the available tags.

Create standard values for both templates.

Add “Tag” as an insert option for the “Tags” template.

Create a “Tags” item named “Tags” in /sitecore/content/Example/Home

From the Ribbon

Select /sitecore/templates/User Defined/Tags/__Standard Values

Click the “Editors” button in the “Appearance” section of the “Configure” tab in the ribbon.
