Blog | Development | How to Determine the Version of Sitecore CMS

This is the thirty-second in a series of posts about learning how to use and develop for Sitecore CMS; it is the follow-up post to “How to Create a Custom Sorter in Sitecore CMS”. In this “How to” post I will be covering how to determine the currently installed version of Sitecore CMS.

When switching between Sitecore projects, it can be easy to lose track of what version of Sitecore is currently installed. Additionally, when debugging issues, it may be important to know the minor version details as well.

Fortunately, Sitecore provides a simple “License Details” dialog with all the necessary technical details, including:

  • Sitecore major and minor versions
  • Version date
  • .NET version
  • Database version
  • License details

From the Content Editor

If you’re in Content Editor mode, you can open the dialog by clicking on the “License Details” button in the menu.

Clicking the button will open the “License Details” dialog

From the Sitecore Menu

Alternatively, if you’re in Desktop mode, you can open the dialog from the Sitecore menu by selecting

  • All Applications
  • System
