How to Reset Fields to Their Standard Values in Sitecore CMS

This is the seventeenth in a series of posts about learning how to use and develop for Sitecore CMS; it is the follow-up post to “How to Manage Default Field Values in Sitecore CMS”. In this “How to” post I will be covering how to reset fields to their standard values in Sitecore CMS.

Resetting fields is useful when a field has been changed and should be set to use the default value once again.

Just setting the field to the same value as default isn’t enough. Additionally, clearing out a field will just result in an empty value.

To reset an item’s field, first select the item.

Click the “Reset” button in the “Fields” section of the “Versions” tab in the ribbon.

This will open a modal comparing the selected item against the standard values item.

A checkbox next to each field can be used to indicate that the field should be reset. Check the fields that need to be reset, and click the “Reset” button when finished.

The item will once again display the “[standard value]” notice for fields that were reset.
