How to Configure Template Sections in Sitecore CMS
December 30, 2014
This is the fourteenth in a series of posts about learning how to use and develop for Sitecore CMS; it is the follow-up post to “How to Create Templates in Sitecore CMS”. In this “How to” post I will be covering how to configure template sections in Sitecore CMS.
Configuring the Collapsed State
Configuring the collapsed state of a template section allows users to choose which template sections are collapsed or expanded by default. This setting is useful for helping content editors manage content more quickly by not needing to reopen the same template sections over and over for common fields.
To configure whether a template section is collapsed or expanded by default, select the Template section item under the template that you'd like to configure.
The “Collapsed by Default” checkbox in the “Data” template section can be checked to make the template section collapse when viewed initially.
After editing the field, use the Save button in the ribbon to save the changes.
Items based off the template will show the template section collapsed or expanded depending on the state of the checkbox.
Configuring the Template Section Icon
Configuring the template section icon allows users to choose what icon will appear on the template section in the content editor. This helps content editors quickly find a given section by having distinct images for each section.
Sitecore >= 8
Due to design changes with Sitecore 8, icons are no longer displayed on template sections. The icons can be returned to the content editor through some changes, but they're complicated.
Sitecore < 8
To configure the icon of a template section, first select the Template section item under the template that you'd like to configure.
Next, change the item’s icon as described in “How to Configure Item Icons in Sitecore CMS”.
Items based off the template will use the selected icon for the template section.
