How to View Standard Fields in Sitecore CMS
November 18, 2014
This is the ninth in a series of posts about learning how to use and develop for Sitecore CMS; it is the follow-up post to “How to Configure Item Icons in Sitecore CMS”. In this “How to” post I will be covering how to view standard fields in Sitecore CMS.
What Are Standard Fields?
Standard fields are a collection of fields and their field groups that are used to contain configurable metadata about items in Sitecore. Any items in Sitecore that inherit from the “Standard template” template will have these fields.
The “Standard template” template item can be found at
/sitecore/templates/System/Templates/Standard template, but the field groups come from the templates in
These fields are mostly used in the content editor to configure things like help text, icons, and publishing settings.
Where Are Standard Fields?
By default, only the field groups (also known as “template sections”) from custom templates are shown in the content editor.
To view the standard fields, select an item whose fields you want to see.
Select the “View” tab in the ribbon, and check the “Standard Fields” checkbox in the “View” ribbon section.
The field groups from “Standard Fields” appear below the custom field groups.
