For the last few years, the Warwick office has gathered together one week before Thanksgiving to celebrate the upcoming holiday and give thanks for the blessings we have in our lives. Everyone brings a favorite dish or dessert and the office purchases a giant turkey with gravy. It’s certainly one of the most delicious days of the year!
But beyond the food it’s an appropriate time to pause for a moment and consider what we all are thankful for. That didn’t quite happen this year as the food was so mouthwatering that there was little hesitation at all! Plates were covered with all the trimmings. Spiked apple cider filled our cups. Quiet set in as we all devoured the feast.
While the conversation in the conference room was sparse save for the occasional utterances of “pass the gravy” or “I need more potatoes,” I recall looking around the room and realizing what this Geekhive Thanksgiving meant to me. I was thankful to be among friends and that I work at a company which values the culture (and food!) we’re creating as much as the work we’re producing. I didn’t dare say anything so as to not violate the gluttonous silence, but I’d like to think that everyone had a similar thought. We all have so much to be grateful for.
As a bonus to the meal, this year leftover containers were handed out so that we could take a second helping and enjoy it all again on Friday. A true Thanksgiving miracle!
