Steve Ballmer is a tit!!! He admits being wrong to underestimate Apple’s innovations in touch and then goes on to brush off Android and Chrome OS.

Here’s the thing – PCs will always be around but average consumers these days are moving more and more to a mobile platform. Not as a replacement but to compliment the PC and take a large amount of the internet use load off it. And Joe User doesn’t care what OS he uses. He just wants it to work and get him online but in a way that’s reliable and user friendly. Microsoft are really going to have to do a lot better or they risk losing a huge chunk of the market to Apple, Google and RIM.
Just my two cents. I wrote this post on my phone. I only use my PC for downloads and media streaming these days. As soon as I buy a tonido plug my pc will be used about 20% of the time it used to I think.

I’m afraid RIM is on the edge of losing market share. I believe this is the very beginning of their fall from the lead. They have been WAY TO SLOW in catching the new wave of a true multimedia portable device, and have erred in trying to still hang on to the notion of being the best “business” device out there. These days all the devices can handle email and everything else the Blackberry’s thought they did best… I feel so strong about this, i am trying to get out of my RIM stocks as soon as possible, without taking too much of a hit on them. I have also already bought shares in Motorola now, because I feel they have a strong chance of taking RIM’s place… Or at least being right up there with Apple.
Now… Apple…
The iphone (in my humble opinion) is a fanboy toy. I really do have to give Apple credit for paying for and placing so many Apple computers in so many schools out there. For YEARS now they have been breeding happy little Apple users, and all these kids have now come out of school and bought Apple Computers. Along the way, a lot of their parents have also bought machines so their kids could do homework on an Apple too. In doing this, for so long… Apple has a really huge fan base for their products. The ipod was a cool MP3 player.. The touch even more so… Even though there has always been comparable players the whole time. I think the ease of use is what gets most to buy. You don’t have to think at all to own one. You simple press the itunes button and let the machines do all the work. (while you pay for every single song you want, and by the way, are locked into the limits set on the song you bought!)
There has always been good competition to the Apple devices, but the fan base always feeds into the Apple propaganda. Steve talks and all the minions follow.
The newer Android phones are still leading in technology. The new HTC Evo is a far superior device… But the Apple fans just don’t care… As long as their phones LOOK pretty, they will still keep buying whatever Steve says they should. Even when the antenna has a major issue and they are now forced to have silly covers on them to work properly!! How crazy is that?
My advice to people now these days who are looking at getting a new device, wait until the holiday season. There will be some really GREAT new Android based devices release around this time, and the newer android OS is also due out around or before then too. Look to Motorola to release a 2Ghz device too!! (The fastest on the market too by the way!!)
Rubes and minions will always follow Steve and Apple. The smart money researches and READS and studies before they make the choice.
I couldn’t agree more about Apple. Steve tells people what they should want. Apple are a joke. I’m a Linux fan but I’d rather have Windows over Apple any day of the week. That’s a whole other post though.
I was tempted by android but the main reasons I didn’t go for it was because:
1. I hate touch. I like the tactile clickity click I get from my little BB Curve.
2. The hardware on offer at the time I had to renew my contract just couldn’t keep up to the Android OS in my opinion. I looked at the Hero but it didn’t live up to its name. Only E.T would be able to type accuratly on that touch keyboard. The iPhone’s touch keyboard is better.
3. At work I was beginning to support Blackberrys and had no experience with them so I figured owning one would help.
4. Work have recently requested I have blackberry connectivity so I’m just using my own device and having them pay for the Enterprise piece – beats packing around two devices.
Blackberry isn’t as open as Android but I do get to download apps from anywhere without jail breaking, I get to open the back cover of my phone and replace the battery, I get to swap out the media card. Those are some big pluses for both Android and RIM devices. Say what you will about RIM….it’s still better than iPhone in my opinion.
